April Showers Bring Spring Cleaning Hours
It’s a time honored tradition in many households to do a spring cleaning as the seasons finally turn over. Leaves start to come back on trees and people all over the world get to cleaning.
Spring cleaning can be so much more than just simple chores like vacuuming and laundry. It’s a perfect opportunity to do a hard reset. Coming out of a cold winter, take advantage of the opportunity to set yourself up for a successful spring.
We, at The Edge have three ideas for your cleaning routine!
Declutter
The fall and winter months are some of the busiest with all the holidays and events. It can be incredibly easy to collect clutter in the home. We recommend going through shelves and drawers and thinking about the last time you used certain items. As a general rule of thumb, if you haven’t used it in the past year, it's time to toss it. Storage is also a big help, take notice of the seasonal items that have started to take permanent residency on your shelves. Pumpkin decorations? They can probably go back into storage until the fall.
It’s no myth decluttering your space will declutter your mind. Especially in cramped dorms and tiny apartments, too much stuff can make a space feel overwhelming. Don’t accidentally add on stress because your space has become overrun with things you don’t need and don't use.
Go Through Your Closet
Closets in college can be insanely small. It’s nearly impossible to fit winter and spring clothes at the same time. One suggestion is to pull your coats and heavy sweaters and put them away. You can store them into packing cubes and place them under your bed. This frees up spaces for the sundresses that you've been waiting to wear on a sunny Saturday.
You could even bring any winter clothes you don’t need home during spring break.
While you go through the closet, try to think about what you got a lot of use out of and what you didn't wear. Do you have anything you never chose to put on? Any clothes that you just don't want anymore? Don’t throw them away! Donate the clothes to Goodwill or Salvation Army!
Get Something New for the Space
Reward yourself! You made it through another long, cold winter! After dedicating time to refresh and reset, you deserve to get something new for your room. This could be something as simple as a poster to hang up on the wall. Maybe you want a new lamp, or carpet, splurge and get it.
With the upcoming months, having something new can totally change and reenergize the room. Sometimes dorm rooms can make you feel stir crazy. There aren't always a lot of changes you can make; you can't paint the walls or buy new furniture. Do what you can with the space you have. Furthermore, you don't have to break the bank. You could print out pictures with your friends and make a collage for the walls. Paint your own wall art and make a night of it with friends. Adding something new to your room, whether it’s homemade or store bought, will rejuvenize the space and get you ready to rock the rest of spring.
