Don’t Let the Break Get Away—Take the Time to Get Away
As the months of the school year pass by, the daily lifestyle and structure of a college student can eventually feel restrictive over time. Whether it's spending every weekend night at the same bar, walking past the same buildings daily, or eating at the same dining hall you’ve gone to since the first week of freshman year, the charm and beauty of Elon’s campus can fade away.
It also doesn’t help that experiencing the other surrounding areas of enjoyment outside our campus are basically exclusive to students with access to a car.
Here at the Edge we’re aware that our time as college students is valuable, unique, and will pass before we notice. This is why we stress the importance of getting out and experiencing the world anytime the possibility arises.
Fortunately for us, the halfway point of the semester is approaching, and with it brings a much needed spring break to look forward to.
Summer is often viewed as the time to get away because there's more expendable time to enjoy, but if utilized with the right intention, our week-long spring intermission from class can be the revitalizing break that is looked back on years later with fond memories.
It's apparent that Elon is filled with a diverse community of students from all over the world, so the destination of our spring breaks will range from a wide variety of locations. Some students will stay on campus for the week, which can be just as much of a period of relaxation before the second half of the semester.
Whether you're planning to pack up your suitcase and take a trip out of the country or simply looking to stray from the normal routine, spring break is an opportunity to reset and gain a new experience outside the everyday rhythm of college life.
For the locals
North Carolina is a diverse state when it comes to geographical regions and land areas. If you’re looking for some outdoor endeavors that don’t require a strict budget or extensive experience, you don’t have to travel far.
For many, the coast is always a reliable option. Locations such as Carolina Beach, Emerald Isle, Wrightsville Beach, and the Outer Banks offer a calming shoreline that is perfect for laying back in the sand and swimming against the waves.
If you're a scenic person who enjoys being amongst nature, traveling to the mountains can be a better match. Areas such as Boone and Asheville provide beautiful locations for sightseeing along the Appalachian Mountains, including Blue Ridge Parkway, Jump off Rock, and the North Carolina Arboretum.
Stay-cation
For students staying on campus, the break doesn't just have to involve staying inside your dorm. Taking the time to explore parks and other outdoor locations around the school community by means of walking trails or public transportation can be rejuvenating. The city of Burlington also offers a relatively small but vibrant downtown scene that contains some positive fun pastime activities.
No matter how students decide to spend their break, the most important thing is to take time away from the everyday routine and experience something new. Sometimes the most enjoyable moments come from leaving familiar and stepping into the unknown.
