If you’re anything like us at The Edge, you look forward to the spring season, especially all of the local farmer’s markets! Whether you’re someone who eagerly waits to try the free samples from local vendors or the foodie who loves to cook with fresh produce, a trip to the local farmer’s market in the spring is a must-do activity. Grab your reusable bag and head down to the market to enjoy the vibrant colors and seasonal scents all while supporting local businesses and sustainability.

One of the many things the farmer’s market has to offer is a wide variety of fresh, home-grown produce and food products. This is the perfect place to find leafy greens, hearty meats, fun spreads and pickles that have been made with love and good-for-you ingredients. Cooking with local produce is a great way to ensure that you know where you food is being sourced from. Shopping at farmer’s markets supports local farmers, reduces your carbon footprint and the products are typically more flavorful than processed and packaged grocery store foods. The variety of baked goods and sweet treats are another staple that we at The Edge love to indulge in. Products such as apple butter, salsa,, fresh-baked bread and more are great to try if you’re feeling adventurous and want a taste of the unique flavors the region has to offer.  The farmer’s market has everything you need to make healthy, delicious meals!

Finding ways to be sustainable in your everyday shopping practices can be difficult, but visiting the farmer’s market every week can be a fun and simple way to help the environment. Many local farmers prioritize eco-friendly practices meaning there is less pesticide-use, more water conservation and more attention given to soil health than larger industrial farms. Farmer’s markets make it easy to make green choices, and you should definitely take advantage of it.

We at The Edge love to make the local Elon Farmer’s Market a weekly outing with our friends and we look forward to the tradition every week. The market is an amazing way to build connections with your community and have a designated time to enjoy the sun with your friends while the weather is nice. This spring, make the farmer’s market part of your weekly routine!
