The Faux-Freckle Craze

Growing up, my mom and my best friend both had a crazy amount of freckles that would come out in the summer. And they hated that. If you’re like them, you have probably tried to find all the ways you could cover them up from full coverage foundation to even wearing a t-shirt over your face at the beach. They never looked at their freckles as something special or a beauty that a lot of women desire.

Fast forward to now; faux freckles have become one of the biggest makeup trends we are seeing online. The #fakefreckles has over 696 million views on TikTok, and it has become a must-have step in people’s makeup routines. Videos show people using an array of products like freckle pens, self-tanner or even hair dye claiming fake freckles help give their makeup a more natural look. Some of the comments love it and can’t wait to try it out for themselves, but some just don’t get the hype saying things like:

“wait…I got bullied my whole life for having freckles now it’s a trend? I’m confused”.

Not only is the popularity of freckles taking the internet by storm, but it has also created a big change in the modeling industry. There is a huge rise in models with freckled skin being featured on runways or magazine covers because of the current appreciation freckles have achieved. In the past few years, we have seen different magazines and beauty companies embracing individuality within their models. It not only makes social media feel more refreshing and authentic, but it also encourages people to feel confident and proud in their own skin.

If we got you hooked and now want to try out this faux freckle trend for yourself, here are a couple of the top-rated products people are using to achieve this natural look:

Freck Beauty: Freck The Original Freckle

2 different shades available ranging from $22-$28

This is said to be the most realistic faux freckle product that gives your skin perfect-looking freckles by sinking into your skin rather than sitting on top as an eyeliner pen would do.

Tarte: Freckle Pen

3 different shades available at $22

This product has an angled brush tip to help mimic that freckle look while giving you the most natural appearance.

Lime Crime: Freckle Pen

3 different natural brown shades and 1 purple shade available for $15

While this might be the cheapest of the three options listed, it isn’t the lowest rated. People love how easy it is to apply and the light, natural look it gives to their skin.

This trend is taking over social media and encouraging people to embrace the look of natural beauty, and we are totally here for it. It can be so easy to get caught up in the different beauty standards social media creates. It is important to take a step back and realize the most beautiful version of yourself is the one that confidently embraces every unique feature.
