Fringe Everywhere
Fringe is trending, and we're not talking about a cowboy Halloween costume or a faux suede vest from Shein that you'd probably wear to Coachella in 2013. Think blazers, structured jeans and unique bags, all with an added element. Fringe is making a new, rejuvenated comeback!
Honestly, this trend makes total sense. We're all exhausted by the flat minimalist “clean girl” aesthetic. Isn’t it just so much more fun to wear a white shirt with jeans that have tassels? We at The Edge think so.
Bottega, Gucci and Stella McCartney piled fringe onto structured dresses and coats. L’Officiel even dubbed the trend “avant-garde” because it turns your clothes into living art; each step has rhythm and looks alive.
Fringe didn't just make a subtle comeback in high fashion; some of our favourite celebrities are wearing it too. Zendaya wore a black fringe dress by Christian Cowan to a red carpet event in Madrid promoting Spider-Man and Emma Chamberlain wore a custom gown to the Met Gala, featuring fringe-lined sleeves.
If you weren't invited to fashion week, don't worry! The trend has hit mainstream stores just as hard. You can find fringed satin tops at Zara, fringe dresses, shirts and purses at Reformation, and everything from cardigans to tote bags lined with fringe at Free People.
You're also in luck if you're trying to keep your wardrobe more sustainable. Thrifting is probably one of the best, and cheapest, places to find good quality fringe pieces. Since it keeps cycling back into fashion every few decades, Depop is flooded with teenagers selling their moms' authentic 70s fringe.
If you're into this trend like us, try starting with a fringe jacket like this bestseller from Revolve or a purse like this shoulder bag from Free People, and if you're feeling particularly inspired by fringe, check out these fringe jeans by Mother.
The trick to pulling it off without looking like you're in costume? Proportion and contrast. Pair a fringed sweater with a clean, ultra-simple pair of jeans, or toss a fringe jacket over a solid-color baby tee. A fringe bag? That can go with almost anything, well, except maybe a full fringe outfit.
By keeping the rest of your look minimal and structured, you let the fringe take center stage, and it looks deliberate rather than an overstimulating mess of tassels.
Of course, fringe’s resurgence isn't nuanced; it's a part of everyone's growing obsession with western style. From cowboy boots, suede jackets and turquoise, western chic is all over our feed. Fringe just happens to be the easiest gateway into this vibe.
