Why Pinterest should be your new favorite app

One thing about us here at The Edge is that we love to feel inspired. Like all of you, when things are dull, we look to our creative outlets to find some energy! When you think of social media, most people’s minds go straight to the most popular: Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, etc. But the most underrated app, in our humble opinion, has to be Pinterest.

If your only memory of Pinterest is from when you were in seventh grade and made a ‘wedding’ board, we get it. But Pinterest can be a fresh outlet to organize, feel inspired, and craft your dream life and aesthetic! The most used social media apps tend to have the worst side effects: comparison, mindless scrolling, and distraction.

But where is Pinterest different? For anyone who doesn’t know, Pinterest is an app set up similar to Instagram, but there are no likes, few comments, and solely pictures people feel motivated, inspired, or creative posting. As a whole, Pinterest is a casual outlet to post the pictures that make you the happiest! And, for some odd reason, which we absolutely adore, Pinterest feels free from comparison.

The first step to creating the perfect Pinterest is creating different 'boards' where you save pictures that fit the board's theme. Here are The Edge's favorite board ideas to craft your own dream drawing board!

Fashion board. Who doesn’t want to elevate their style? A fashion board is perfect when you lack ideas for new everyday outfits. Or, if you want to rearrange your style (something we do often), a Pinterest board is an easy way to sort out what this ‘dream’ style looks like.

Meal ideas. After a long day of classes or studying, nothing is more frustrating than when you get to dinner or lunch, are starving, and have no idea what to make. The pain you feel in that moment is truly a universal college experience. A board dedicated to recipes, fun foods, meal prep ideas, and healthy living has been game-changing in keeping my eating habits in college balanced, healthy, and satisfied with my weekly meals. Suppose you are chronically unorganized like some of us here at The Edge. In that case, this is a creative way to plan for the week before grocery shopping.

A little tip: For this board, we suggest titling it something parallel to your goals; this can be anything from ‘healthy living’ to ‘yummy’ or ‘meal prep ideas.’

Aesthetic board. As we get older, and with college being painfully busy, we tend to forget who we are and what we love doing. A board designed to save images that remind you of who you are at your core and what makes you the happiest can put you back on track when you are feeling the most lost in your 20s. (Trust me, we get it.)

2025 Vision Board. This is by far our biggest board suggestion for your Pinterest canvas. For your vision board, add pictures that reflect what you envision for your dream 2025. Don’t just add any pictures, though—add the pins that reflect your exact goals, aesthetic, and dreams to the tee.

One last tip…Don’t count out putting inspirational quotes on this board!
