A Cookie Craze in Europe
Starting out in our first country — France! We went to Paris on the hunt for cookies, which, when you’re in Paris, is not a hard task. There’s a multitude of options so let's break down the best one we found (or the best few)! Looking for the most decadent, melt-in-your-mouth, chewy cookie? Puffy Cookies checks every box. They have a few stores in Paris, but they also sell their cookies at one of Paris’s most popular smash burger places. A cheeseburger burger and cookie in one stop? We’d call that a win. If you prefer a little thinner, firmer cookie, check out Gosselin Bakery for one of their chocolate chip cookies. While they may not be as advertised as their other desserts, they’re a hidden gem for Parisian locals!
Heading south to Spain, we’re here to report on the best cookies in Barcelona. One word to describe the cookies at Chök Carme? Insane, out of this world, jackpot — okay, that’s more than one word, but it’s needed when we’re talking about these cookies. Chök Carme is a chocolate kitchen that focuses on finding the most exquisite ingredients and combining them with different tastes. They have a variety of cookie flavor options like red velvet, oreo cheesecake, peanut butter jelly or marshmallow double chocolate chip — a fan favorite! Oh and don’t think we could forget — they also offer stuffed cookies! An assortment of different flavors each containing a different filling or stuffing — unreal. The best secret about it all? They have vegan and gluten-free cookie options. If this place alone hasn’t convinced you to book your trip to Spain, I don't know what will!
Back up north we go, but even further up this time — let’s head over to Amsterdam, Netherlands! Amsterdam may be known for their stroopwafels — which don’t get us wrong, are amazing — but they sure do know a thing or two about cookies. At Van Stapele Koekmakerij, they offer one of the best cookies in the world. We say one because, well, they only make one flavor cookie. A dark chocolate dough with a white chocolate icing center topped with chocolate chips — chef’s kiss. Enjoy this masterpiece of a cookie while it's still fresh and gooey with a cup of coffee on the side and you’ll understand the hype about this unique bakery. It gives you that warmth like you just stepped into your grandma’s kitchen!
For the last country on our cookie tour, we stopped in Berlin, Germany! The homemade cookies at OOH! Cookies bring a little American flavor to Europe. The New York-inspired cookies come in ten different flavors, including a rotating monthly special, all of which are mouth-watering. With a crunchy exterior with a chewy interior, these are the perfect treat to fuel you for the rest of your daily explorations to come. We recommend the raspberry white chocolate or spekulatius biscoff cookie. They even have a catchy slogan: “I got baked in Berlin.” I mean who doesn’t love a good catchphrase? This place is a must-do when you find yourself in Germany.
Hopefully, our European cookie tour left you feeling more hungry and inspired than tired. If you’re just as passionate about sweet treats as we are here at The Edge, book that flight and take a trip to one of the best cookies in Europe! Don’t forget to tag us if you do, @theedgemag on Instagram!
