I Did Yoga for 40 Days Straight. Here's What Happened.

Last J-term, I challenged myself to complete 40 days of yoga with Feel Better Yoga in Burlington, NC. I haven’t shut up about it since.

So what is 40 days?

Similar to 75 Hard, or 30 days of [insert any fitness challenge ever here], 40 Days to Personal Revolution is a 40-day commitment to yoga, meditation and personal growth. Forty Days is practiced around the world at different yoga studios and throughout various online programs. In this program, participants are guided by yogi master Baron Baptiste’s book, “40 Days to Personal Revolution,” and the program will ask you questions like:

Do I flirt with disaster? Where? When? With whom?

When I trust myself, what are the results?

Where are the rocks in my life, and how can I remove them?

Kait Linton says “‘40 Days’ is about taking action — taking an honest look at where you currently are in life, implementing practices that shift your day-to-day choices and laying the foundation from which to live your highest potential.”

So…what happened?

After daily yoga, meditation, personal inquiry and re-evaluation, I found the calmest version of myself to date. I found myself giving oral presentations in class for the first time ever with no shake in my voice, no rapid heartbeat before presenting, backflips in my stomach, loss of breath or any of the other symptoms that usually appear in my anxious body when public speaking. My anxiety had practically vanished in settings where I was usually very anxious. It was… very cool.

Should you do it?

I’d say so. For me, 40 Days kickstarted a new year and a new semester at Elon, and it provided me with a level of calm that was truthfully priceless. It helped me re-evaluate aspects of my life I wanted to change, and it gave me the tools to readjust and rebuild within the 40 Days we worked together.

If you're interested in completing 40 Days, Feel Better Yoga — located five minutes from campus — offers 40 Days of Personal Resolution each January for $179 without a FBY membership. That price includes 6 weeks of unlimited yoga classes alongside weekly group inquiry meetings, journal prompts, weekly emails and group chats with loads of support in them. If you’re interested, we think this would be a great birthday gift, holiday gift or gift to yourself to reboot for the new year!
