Influencers Buying Their Way into NYFW

It’s many fashion lovers' dreams to attend New York Fashion Week, and it requires hard work and dedication to get there. Well this year, thousands of people tried to bypass that hard work. Viral TikToks exposed lists of PR contacts and money was spent on packages that leaked details on getting NYFW tickets.

TikTok influencers have taken social media by storm. They give us inspiration on how to dress, the best places to travel and even how to manifest good things into our lives. But, some people are questioning their motives to get into NYFW. Are they interested in fashion, or are they just there to get content?

Thousands of influencers sent emails to PR agents who work with NYFW brands to see if they could get a seat at a show. At The Edge, we believe that fashion should be accessible to all people, but it should also be respected. There is an immense amount of work that goes into planning shows and events during Fashion Week. While it would be amazing if anyone could attend, they have to be particular about who’s at what show and where they are sitting. All of these plans go to waste when uninvited people begin to show up.

Even models felt like there was not enough security at fashion week this year, as many of them were able to walk in and watch whatever show they wanted. So while it might not have been okay for influencers to sneak their way in, it doesn’t sound like there was anyone there to stop them.

There are so many other ways to get your foot in the door at NYFW than begging for a seat. Volunteering to set up, seating people, collecting tickets or getting an internship with a NYFW brand are all opportunities to go to a NYFW show and build your resume.

While this topic might be controversial, as most of us are just college students looking for any opportunity we can get, we believe that working hard towards whatever goal you have will always bring you the best results.
