Sex and The City and The Outfits
Yes, there was sex and there was the city, but what everyone can talk about from the fabulous show is the even more fabulous outfits. In December, the iconic Carrie Bradshaw made another appearance in the reboot “And Just Like That…”. After watching the new show, all we could talk about at The Edge was the clothes.
In the first series, “Sex and the City”, there were so many trends and styles worn by the four beautiful women of the show. Their girl group had staple styles that have been followed for years. Charlotte maintained a more classic, Upper East Side look with her white pearls, preppy dresses, and a designer bag always in hand. Miranda always supported the professional yet fashionable attire with trendy pantsuits, blazers, and long pencil skirts. On the other hand, Samatha was in more risky attire, low cut tops, shorter dresses, and bright colors. Then there was Carrie who wore extraordinary outfits by a plethora of designers always accompanied by Manolo Blahniks.
The amazing outfits have become an inspiration for other designs in fashion. Carrie’s newspaper dress has been replicated multiple times on different articles of clothing. Shein, Princess Poly, and WhiteFox Boutique have copied the style on different styles of tops, skirts, and dresses. The character is also responsible for making layering clothes a way to style and gave the ok to mix and match different colors, patterns, and fabrics, which was something that was not widely accepted. Her closet is a department store for Oscar De La Renta and Manolo Blahnik as she dresses from unique to chic. She also mainstreamed the idea of every woman owning a little black dress. Carrie maintained a carefree attitude of what she wore and her effortlessness became contagious among her viewers as the world started to become more comfortable with the idea of dressing for yourself and what you want to wear and not what has been deemed appropriate.

Once the new series started, “And Just Like That…” Carrie’s look took on a more professional approach but maintained the original mismatch style. She still is wearing full skirts that go to the middle of her leg, iconic hats, and chunky belts. Some of her accessories in the original “Sex and the City” made an appearance in the reboot. The blue Manolo Blahniks that Carrie wore in her wedding to Big were seen in the first episode.
All in all, Carrie Bradshaw has become a staple character in the fashion world that quickly was an inspiration for many people and their personal style.
