Trend Alert: Knit Dresses for Spring 2021

This spring and summer, knit dresses are going to be a hot commodity. We saw this trend appear last year when celebrities like Kendall Jenner set the stage. In July 2020, Kendall posted an Instagram photo in the green Hockney from the brand House of Sunny. The dress shortly went viral, and was named “The Cult Dress of Summer of Summer 2021” by Vogue. Leave it to Kendall Jenner to take a winter staple and turn it into the must-have for summer. And now, the trend will continue to grow in 2021 in similar and different fashion.

The dress featured above is the Blair Mini Dress in beige from Princess Polly. Sticking with a neutral dress gives you lots of flexibility to either stay simple or add your fun accessories to spice up the look. But, like the Hockney dress, many knit dresses will be fun and colorful if that's more your style. Either way, add a hat for lunch out in the sun or heels for a night out with friends.

Not only are these dresses suitable for a nice occasion, they're also easy to dress down to be worn running errands or to class. Add your favorite pair of sneakers, and you have an easy, comfy fit. Cutout knit dresses will be a popular style this year and are just as versatile as a regular knit dress. The one featured above is the Hit Refresh Knit Mini Dress from Verge Girl.

If you want a really classy look, a knit maxi dress will be your best friend this summer. The vibrant House of Sunny dresses will continue to be trendy, but there will be more simple designs from many retailers. The same goes for a maxi dress — add sneakers for a casual look or heels for a fancier look.

Knit dresses are bound to be one of the biggest trends of 2021, and your favorite store is likely to be selling them in some form. Here are links to some of our favorite places that prepared for this major trend alert
