Is the Tik Tok Viral “Fox-Eye” Eyeliner Trend Replacing the Classic Cat-Eye Look?

Let’s face it—whether we like it or not, Tik Tok has quickly become a huge influence on the beauty community and trends. Some may even argue that this social media platform consisting of content that ranges from comedy videos to makeup hacks, and everything in between, is replacing other beauty hubs like the beauty YouTuber community and even beauty Instagram influencers. Some of these Tiktok beauty trends have been more over-the-top, like the cloud inspired eye looks or sock curls, but one that has quickly risen to popularity is fox-eye eyeliner.

Think of fox-eye like the long-beloved cat-eye, but with less of a curved line, and more of a straight, angular line. The main difference is the shape and angle of the line coming away from the lash line. Where cat-eye eyeliner gives the eye a more round and girly look, fox-eyeliner makes the illusion of a more lifted, sensual, elongated look: think Bella Hadid, Alexa Demi, and Kendall Jenner. The tiniest change to the angle of your eyeliner can give your face an entirely different look (another example of the magnificent power of makeup)!

To achieve this look, use your favorite liquid or pencil eyeliner, and start with a thin line across the lash line as you usually would with regular cat-eyeliner. At the outer corner, where you would usually begin to extend the line outwards, draw the line at a more upward, straight angle in the direction of your upper temple. Fill in this line to your desired thickness, (we recommend starting light and gradually getting darker for a more precise look).

For an even more dramatic look, extend your line to your inner corner, creating a mini point where your upper and lower lashes meet, and your look is complete! This is a fun look to play around with. Use dark brown eyeshadow to smoke out the wing for a soft and sexy effect, or experiment with eye-color accenting liners, like purple, beige, blue—the options are endless.
