Art comes in a variety of forms, especially paintings. There is oil paint, acrylic, water color, mixed media—you name it and I am sure there is a painting in its form somewhere in the world. But as art grows, so do the means of the artists. Sydney Gubner, owner of Sydney Paige Studios, is the perfect example.

When it comes to the canvas, anything is fair game—including guitars—for Gubner. But her favorite canvases are those that allow her to combine her two passions: painting and fashion.

This fusion of passions has been materialized through her now staple piece: custom handbags. These one-of-a-kind pieces range from flashing fun patterns to simplistic monograms. While she does not just stick to one type of bag, Sydney is known for her use of vintage designer pieces as well as cheaper knockoffs—ultimately achieving the impressive juxtaposition of class and trendy youth.

“I started painting a bunch of my mother's vintage designer bags, which was a huge hit for clients. I also provide replicas, making the bags affordable for college students,” said Gubner. “I also love to commission individual pieces for clients because I have the opportunity to express their personalities. Each bag is as unique as the person I am designing it for.”

But, fashion is not Gubner’s only source of inspiration. She also finds creativity through the simple things in life.

“I am inspired by everything under the sun. My goal for creating my work is to show the beauty in simple things. Whether it be a landscape or something completely abstract, my intentions are to work your imagination and create something aesthetically pleasing to the eye,” she said.

All of Gubner’s work, including her unique bags, are what make up her brand, Sydney Paige Studios. When she was in her senior year of high school, Gubner decided to put a name to her art after winning “Best of Show” for the state of Connecticut. Since its start, Sydney Paige Studios has held numerous pop-up galleries and ultimately changed the art and fashion landscape.

But while Gubner has created a successful business and caught the eye of many, her art goes far beyond cash flow. In reality, it has become an essential mode of expression in her life.

“Art is extremely important to me,” she said. “It has given me an outlet to express my creativity while providing the opportunity to view the world from a different lens.”
