4 Tips On Staying Sane During Quarantine
An unfortunate reality for many: receiving your diploma through Zoom. To the seniors out there, we bet you didn’t see this one coming.
While many schools have already moved online for the remainder of the semester, many students have high hopes that they will be able to return to campus in a few weeks. But in all honesty, it’s not looking too hot for us.
Trust us, we don’t want to be stuck at home the rest of the semester either. We might as well have just enrolled in Education Connection—yeah, that dreaded commercial we watched in between The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Hannah Montana way back when. Who knew that commercial would make its come back?
But we’re certainly not here to dwell on Zoom graduation. So, here are some ways to stay sane during #coronacation. You’ll thank us later.
Get in Shape
We all have that one time of year (okay, maybe a few times a year) where we say, “This is the time I’m really going to get in shape. No, seriously.” And of course that doesn’t happen. Usually it’s because we’re too busy, lazy, not sure what to even do or simply don’t want to. For those of you who are motivated and have wanted the time to be able to work out, congrats. You are probably celebrating this time to hit the Peloton or venture outdoors. But, for those of you who love hiding behind all the excuses listed above and others, sorry—you really have no excuses anymore! Exercise doesn’t have to be a burden or something that makes you want to cry. You can simply take a walk and enjoy being in touch with nature.
2. Read a Book
We don’t know about you, but we have more books than we can count, most of which we’ve never touched. (I’m sure the same goes for you unless you’re a really good reader, and if so, good for you.) Our point is: Those books are waiting to be read. And honestly, what better feeling than being nose-first in a book you cannot seem to put down? Now is your time—in between class, workouts, TikTok-watching, you name it. When you find that book you are in love with, I promise you won’t be disappointed. P.S. Please let us know your book recommendations!
3. Spend Time with Family
So, hear us out. I know your sister is the “woat,” your brother makes you “nauseous” and you don’t even want to get started with your parents, but listen, please. When else in your life are you going to be with your full family under the same roof for an extended period of time? Take advantage of these special moments. Make up with your sister, and spend time with her. Do something with your brother that you can both enjoy. Make a family dinner, and play cards after dessert. Everyone in your family is in the same position of feeling a little hopeless and plain old bored. Cut everyone some slack and make the most of this situation. Soon you will be graduating from college, your sister will move to a new city, your brother will be who knows where (LOL), and your parents will be missing you. Yeah, that hit hard didn’t it?
4. Plan a Post-isolation Trip or Graduation Ceremony
This one really goes out to you seniors. A way you can make use of all this time is planning something amazing with your friends, whether that be an elaborate vacation or just a weekend road trip. Planning with your friends will give you something to look forward to and give you an opportunity to be with the friends you were supposed to be making many memories with this spring. You can also starting planning the “home-made” graduation ceremony of your dreams for you and your friends to celebrate. Talk to parents and friends, and make your own ceremony. Please send pics.
We hope these tips make quarantining just a tad bit easier. We know this is a hard time for us all, but we do believe there is a silver lining. Make the best of your time with the people you are around or even just with yourself. We all can do it.
