5 Best Phone Apps to Get You Through Quarantine

Right now, we are going through a lot of uncertainty in our lives due to the coronavirus outbreak. There are many questions that remain unanswered, and it is hard to think of when life will return back to normal. Now everyone is stuck at home, required to abide by the social distancing rules stuck in place.

Thankfully, many companies are offering free games to help us stay productive and positive during these times. Here are our favorite apps for quarantine and beyond:

  1. Headspace

Taking time out of your day to focus on yourself is very important for your mental health, especially during an anxious time in our lives. Meditation is important to do in a stressful time like this. This application is our favorite for meditation. Headspace helps to find a space where we can feel comfortable, relaxed and positive. It helps ensure that we are taking care of ourselves.

The app sends notifications throughout the day to help you stay present. The prompts are creative, and the animations in Headspace are adorable. Best of all, this application is free! Headspace Plus is also free for healthcare professionals. New programs are being added during this uncertain time—such as “Headspace for Work,” “Headspace for Educators” and “Headspace for Healthcare Professionals”— to listen to during this crisis. Go check it out!

2. Nike Training Club

The best apps to download during quarantine are the ones that will keep your mind and body healthy and happy. While playing games on your phone can be fun, keeping your body active is important, especially when being confined in your home. Nike Training Club offers 185 free workouts of varying levels and different personal goals to set. We particularly like the endurance goal because it keeps us staying active during quarantine in a fun and motivational way!

3. Netflix viewing party

Watching endless hours of Netflix shows can seem repetitive during quarantine, especially when you are by yourself. Luckily, Netflix has just added a new feature that allows multiple accounts to watch a show at the same time and chat with each other! It is called Netflix Party and all you have to do is download a free Google Chrome extension to access it!

Netflix Party will allow all of your friends to watch the movies and shows at the same time. This way you can laugh together, cry together and, most importantly, binge watch together. As long as everyone has an active Netflix account, they are able to do this. We have been hosting Netflix parties with friends during quarantine, and it makes self-isolation so much better because it feels like we are all together again.

4. Draw Something

You might remember this hit app from 2012, but it is back and better than ever. Draw Something is a fun and goofy game that allows you to stay connected with friends during quarantine by drawing. This is a back and forth game that fills up your time by drawing pictures of items and having your friends guess what they are. We downloaded this quirky game and it allows us to connect with friends remotely in a lighthearted way.

Quarantine is a great time to catch up on some must-read books and interesting articles. Since being quarantined at home, we have downloaded many reading applications that vary from iBooks to Cosmopolitan to Vogue to National Geographic to news stations. This way, we can read anything from short fashion articles to Covid-19 updates to The Great Gatsby, all right at your fingertips.
