How to Achieve an Everyday Blowout

Just as we experience good hair days, we also deal with those annoying bad hair days. For me personally, a bad hair day puts a damper on the rest of my day—it’s just such a mood killer!

To avoid this kind of slump, I’ve recently taken on a new challenge of blow drying my hair each time I wash it. But I don’t just shoot for a quick blow dry. I aim for those enviable Drybar level blowouts each and every time!

Here are a few tricks I’ve learned that work the best for achieving that luscious look!

First, check out blogger Brighton Keller on Instagram (@brightontheday), and watch her “Hair” highlights. Most of my hair hacks come from watching her style her own hair!

The next step is investing in a good round brush. Don't feel like you need to splurge on the most expensive one right away! I started out with a Hot Tools 2-inch barrel from Target, and it achieved the exact look I was going for.

But if you do feel like treating yourself, I am a huge advocate of any and all Drybar products. I am a proud owner of their Full Pint Medium Round Brush, and it is easily my favorite hair tool! It’s helpful to watch a few tutorials on how to round brush your own hair. If you don’t have time to shower, you can even work it through dry hair!

The next secret is in your shampoo. I never believed that shampoo mattered until I moved to Elon. Most of us probably grew up in homes with water softeners, which allow for silky smooth hair and prevent heavier minerals from entering our water.

Unfortunately, Elon doesn’t provide this luxury, so your hair will likely feel heavier and retain more oil. After two years of trial and error, I’ve narrowed down my favorites to two shampoos! These two products couldn't be more different, but I refuse to ever use a different shampoo during the rest of my time here.

My first recommendation is the Head and Shoulders Itchy Scalp Care shampoo. It dries up the oils, I swear! The second shampoo is the Fekkai Full Blown Volume Shampoo. It gives your hair that extra lift when paired with a round brush.

I truly believe the secret to an at-home blowout is the right brush and shampoo. With a little practice, you’ll be a professional in no time, and you’ll be walking around with great hair and a confident attitude!
