Recreating Maeve Wiley’s Edgy Look

The second season of Netflix’s Sex Education came out this past January. The show focuses on a crazy cast of characters who attend a British high school, including an alien-obsessed nymphomaniac.

But the show’s hidden gem is our kickass heroine, Maeve Wiley. She is mysterious, undoubtedly fierce, and wildly intelligent. In addition to her brains and quick wit, she straight up owns the grunge look. She is typically clad in oversized tees, leather jackets, and combat boots, rocking messy eyeliner and her infamous pink hair. I basically wanna be Maeve Wiley so obviously I had to recreate her signature look.

The Outfit

Maeve Wiley is all things grungy and edgy with a flair of femme. She is seen sporting oversized jackets, boxy cut T-shirts, leather boots, and mostly dark colors. For this look, I paired a ZARA leather jacket with slightly faded black jeans, a white T-shirt, and some old biker boots.

The Makeup

Recreating Maeve’s makeup was super simple and can be done with just a couple products since Maeve pretty much sticks to eyeliner and lipstick. I spot-concealed my face using the beloved L’Oreal Infallible Full Coverage Concealer. Next, I filled in my brows with the Wet N Wild Micro Brow Pencil in the shade “Brunette” and set it with the black NYX Brow Mascara. Maeve keeps her brows super dark and thick like me, so I just followed the natural arch of my brow and filled them just like I would!

For the eyes, I used the black Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner and a Milani eye pencil to fill in my waterline. Then, I took the Milani pencil and smudged the color along my lower lash line. For the waterline pencil color, I chose navy blue to make my eyes pop.  On the show, Maeve uses a dark charcoal color in her waterline, but feel free to use whatever color you feel best suits the look!

I finished it off with mascara and moved on to the next step: contouring! I chose to heavily contour my cheekbones since the actress Emma Mackey who portrays Maeve Wiley has the most ridiculous facial structure. Chiseled. AF. For this step, use whichever contour/bronzer product you prefer for your skintone.

Now for the final step of the makeup look, lips! Maeve always wears an earthy-toned nude color on her lips. I used a Rimmel lip liner to fill and line my lips then finished it off with chapstick. I overlined my lips, but that is totally optional!

The Hair

Finally, the signature pink hair. This was easily the funnest part of the whole “makeover.” I used a pink L’Oreal spray and got help from one of my lovely pals when applying it. It gave a more pink look than Maeve’s hair, but I ended up loving the way it turned out (despite my hands being aggressively stained pink). This spray worked so well, and it comes in a wide range of colors. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to spice up their life with some color!
