Shayne Cerebe: An Elon inspired Yogi looks to inspire her peers to love themselves and their bodies

Elon junior, Shayne Cerebe has always been an energetic, active and “fit” individual. She played sports throughout high school and always enjoyed being a part of a team. Cerebe explains, “Although I may have always been fit, I did not fall in love with the lifestyle until the summer after my sophomore year at Elon.”

This lifestyle she refers to encourages all-around healthy living, in other words, a lively, well-rounded mindset. “Learning about yoga in an in-depth manner has heightened my appreciation for living a wholesome lifestyle,” Cerebe says, “Physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, whatever it might be, yoga encourages the individual to be his or her best self.” Yoga has grown in popularity throughout the Elon community as a way to de-stress, workout and improve overall health.

After Cerebe began noticing positive changes in her life as a result of being fit and practicing yoga, she began looking for ways to spread that love of being healthful to others. “I love promoting health and fitness in any way that I can,” Cerebe says. “Whether that be through my Instagram platform (@shayne_themindfulyogi), my job with Campus RecWell, or my training sessions and plans, I aim to help as many people that will allow me.” Almost daily, Cerebe posts health tips and her own personal workout sessions on her Instagram account to reach her audience.

Most recently, Cerebe has participated in Elon’s ‘Love your Body’ week, which helped health awareness on campus by providing events, advice and education about self-love. “Self love entails the physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects of our lives,” says Cerebe, “RecWell encourages young men and women to care for themselves first, and that you will succeed in other aspects of your life if you’ve taken care of you first. I think we all need to be reminded of that more often.”

Cerebe continues to be a light on campus, using her own love and knowledge to help others on their journeys to health and happiness. She says, “It is important to search for balance in various aspects of your life, to take time to discover your passions, your likes and dislikes, and to draw your boundaries.”
