The American Music Awards: Fashion Recap

The American Music Awards may be over, but the fashion buzz continues. While the musical performances and red carpet interviews are incredible, we want to talk about who wore what. Stars who normally play it safe ventured out of their comfort zones while others who are known for outrageous style choices decided to push themselves even farther. The result was a mix of iconic and bold garments with some that missed the mark. So, check out this recap of looks from the night:

1) Lizzo

Who doesn’t love Lizzo? The grammy-winning artist wore an orange babydoll dress with tiered ruffles. The best part of this look is the styling. Her hair gives an adorable nod to The Supremes while her strappy white heels are both vintage and on-trend. Let’s not forget the ultra-tiny bag that represents just how little she cares for the opinions of her haters. Icon status? We think so!

2) Constance Wu

While we adore this “Crazy Rich Asians” star, we were not as crazy about her AMA’s look. She wore a light pink mini dress that had a few more details than necessary. The drop waist form and criss cross stitching gave this dress an awkward fit and made it look overdone. Sometimes less is more.

3) Halsey

Though some thought of this look as too avante garde, we loved it. The singer wore a floral ensemble that gave a sense of romance with an edge. The look is further enhanced with gorgeous eye makeup that makes Halsey look like a walking mosaic. Has the met gala come early?

4) Lil Nas X

This star has come a long way since his hit, ‘Old Town Road’. He wore a lime green suit that many claim to be a take on Prince’s iconic looks but some find it a bit overwhelming. Even so, we can honestly say that Lil Nas X’s confidence is what makes this look work. Also, can we talk about those square-toe boots? Definitely adding to the wish list!

5) Regina King

King reminds everyone of how important it is to value quality over gimmicks. In a sleek black dress and matching headpiece, she looks like literal royalty. The shimmer detail on the fabric makes the garment more than a basic black dress and the draped off-shoulder detail is well done.
