Why Baking Your Face is the Key to Flawless Foundation

We hate spending time artfully layering primer, foundation and concealer onto our face just for the makeup to start creasing everywhere an hour later. It’s SO annoying! From under the eyes, to the corners of our mouth, it may feel like all that makeup is just sliding off. Is it because of skin texture, or are the makeup products expired? We are here to help solve this problem and help ensure that the makeup application process is flawless!

The key to flawless looking skin is… drum roll please… baking! Baking is relatively popular among makeup artists, and it has stuck around for a reason. Baking is the technique of taking a loose or set finishing powder on either a brush or powder puff and generously tapping into areas of the skin that crease the most; examples of these areas may be under the eyes, between frown lines, on the forehead or the sides of the nose.

This technique is also amazing for highlighting areas of the face after setting with bronzer. Here are some of our favorite setting powder recommendations!

1. Charlotte Tilbury

It’s definitely on the expensive side, however we can personally swear by this one. It leaves our skin feeling flawless, and our makeup looking dewy and fresh all day.

2. Laura Mercier

This is a classic loose setting powder that has been used by makeup lovers for generations. It’s also beginner friendly, so don’t feel intimidated to try this one out if you’re new to the baking game!

3. E.l.f

This halo glow loose setting powder is a best seller for a reason! It’s super budget-friendly and easy for beginners to test out. This product will not only set the face well but will give a stunning base, perfect for adding a glowy highlighter on top.

We’re no makeup artists or influencers, but we at The Edge definitely recommend this technique to anyone struggling with making their makeup last all day. Give it a try!
